Information Systems: Jason's Web Site Tips:
Use the Internet to dodge, duck and dodge prices

One of the best features of the Internet is the ability to shop anywhere in the world from your home, compare prices, and read online reviews of products. This has given the upper hand to consumers to dodge, duck and dodge (as Patches O'Houlihan would say) prices, while narrowing down your choices until you feel comfortable with a product and an online store to do business with.

It's difficult for me to remember what shopping was like before the internet and the ability to compare prices and read online reviews. Actually, I can recall a few experiences - It was 1988, I was fourteen years old and plunked down $500 to buy a 320 watt Pioneer stereo receiver and Cerwin Vega D3 speakers. It's 20 years later, my hearing has worsened, and the stereo has made it's way into the garage. At fourteen years old, besides not having a driver's license to cruise around and shop for the best deal, there was no mainstream internet and I was left at store's mercy to pay whatever they printed on the price tag.

Welcome to 2008. Unlimited information is online and readily available for the savvy shopper. What's my tip of the week? At your convenience from home, check out a few web sites I frequent when in need of a new gadget for work... or for fun.

  • www.ecost.com  - If you don't mind buying factory recertified, this web site is for you. Often products still carry a full manufacturer warranty.

  • www.geeks.com  - Computers, PDA's, cell phones, scanners, toys, etc...

  • www.savingscenteronline.com  - coupons for Home Depot discount, Quiznos, Chuck E Cheese, and more!

Please let me know if you have any questions!
I appreciate your feedback to date!
